Quilty Sewing Projects

January 17, 2013

I’ve been busy sewing up a storm lately! Here are a few of the projects I’ve been working on, both large and small!

The guild block of the month was to make an equilateral triangle. I loved this process! I didn’t win the drawing, but had fun with a new technique!

For this block, and the one below, we were given a small amount of the Madrona Road line and asked to make an improv block. I realized, after cutting and slashing, sewing, and cutting some more, that I wasn’t really an improv person. I like to plan things out a little better so it was actually quite stressful for me! I got frustrated with my “improv block” scrapped it, grabbed my left over pieces and made the not-so-creative block above.

Then I went and looked back at my scrapped block. After taking a break from it, I had an easier time making the block above. So there you have it, my true improv block!

Our guild got two sets of QuiltCon blocks to make a quilt with. (Short story, all the blocks that weren’t picked for the raffle quilt were packaged up into sets and sent to Modern Quilt guilds to make a quilt with. All the quilts will be finished before QuiltCon and be given to the Austin Children’s Shelter to cover the beds there.) This is the second set that our guild, the San Antonio Modern Quilt Guild, worked on. So many fun blocks!! I wish I could track down who made them all!

Then, after it was mostly put together, and up on the design wall, we realized that we had inadvertently done a little urban planning! Leave it to the architect and interior designer of the group to help plan a quilt top and that’s what you get! :)

See it?

Here’s a little sneak peek of a pattern that should be ready in about 2 weeks! It’ll go out to my testers in just a couple of days, then off to the print shop! It’s called The Laura Tote and is a collaboration with Melissa from Iza Pearl Design! Isn’t she just fabulous and super chic? When the pattern is officially released I’ll have to get Melissa to drop by the site and explain her inspiration for the bag! ;)
I’ve also got a quilt pattern that will be in Quilt Magazine April/May 2013 which I’m excited about! I’m currently sewing up a different version so you have more than one example to see once it’s published! I’ll share more info about it when the issue goes on sale February 9th!
Happy Sewing!
