Quilt Market 2012 Recap

November 1, 2012

Whew! Finally back from my trip to Houston! I was hoping that things might slow down just a tad but it’s not looking like it will! But… that’s a good thing! We’ve had such a good response to the projects I designed for the Windham Fabrics booth to showcase the Hello Gorgeous line designed by Melissa Ybarra/Iza Pearl Design that I’ll be working on getting the patterns ready for mass production! (The beautiful quilt I showed you will be released, just not right away. A magazine has expressed an interest in publishing it. :) I’ll pass along information when I get it!)

Market was super fun! I met lots of fabulous people, saw inspiring projects, and came back with several more pages in my sketchbook filled out with ideas!

The Echino/Kokka booth. Love that fabric panel. Those butterflies were 3D, which added some fun texture!

Cute vintag-y display from Melody Miller! All the little details were accounted for!

Here’s a close up of the old school TV? There’s a teeny tiny display inside, complete with twinkle lights! Love!

Block of the Month pattern from Carolyn Friedlander! Maybe I can get some friends from the SAMQG to join me and complete this paper pieced quilt, The Local Quilt. Her new line, Architextures was simply great!

I also met the lovely Patty Sloniger. Her new collection with Michael Miller Fabrics, Les Amis was wonderful! Cute woodland animals, perfect geometrics, and some woodgrain!

Look at this great felt feather pillow in her booth!

Had a chance to visit with the lovely Anna Marie! LOVE the new pattern, the Escape Artist Bag, she’ll have available in January! I would never have though that the velveteen could gather up so nicely!

Bari J. had a fantastic booth and it was so nice to say hi to her! Look at all the ruffles on that bed! (She refinished the bed herself. It’s hard to see in the picture but it’s a gorgeous metallic pewter finish!) Apparently her daughter has claimed both the bed and the duvet/coverlet!

Wish I had better photos of this booth but it was pretty full every time I stopped by! Sarah has a new collection, Luxe in Bloom, with Art Gallery Fabrics coming soon! I loved the prints and patterns in this collection!

Bolster pillows held together with a leather band make the perfect side table! Seriously fantastic idea Sarah!

Finally had the pleasure of meeting Angela Walters! She was so much fun to chat with and seriously takes quilting to an entirely different level!

Can you see all the individual quilting patterns in her sample? Her logo is there in the middle too! She’s got some new fabric coming out soon! LOVE the colors!

The Tula Pink booth was also a visual feast! Massive anchor quilt! The piecing itself is fantastic, but then add in the quilting from Angela Walters and it’s fabulous! The anchor theme went along with her new fabric line, Salt Water, which will be available next month!

See the rope Angela quilted on, snaking it’s way down from the top of the anchor? Seriously genius! (I hear that Tula dropped it off one night and Angela had it quilted for her the next day!)

VW Pillows = cuteness!

Jeni Baker from In Color Order had some super cute fabrics that’ll be out soon too! I got to see a few pictures of her bunny George. Cute!

Betz White demonstrating her thrifted folding chairs for me! I was loving on the chairs when she shared with me that they were folding chairs! I had to have her show me. :) Seriously, why can’t they make folding chairs like this anymore?!?

I saw Betz on Instagram posting cute pictures of part of her new pattern collection, Wildlife with Love and knew I had to stop by the booth and see them in person. So cute!
Quilted silk sample, look at how luscious that looks! (Can’t remember what booth I took this picture at.)
Also had a chance to preview Joel Dewberry‘s new collection, Notting Hill, which will be out shortly!
(I geeked out a little and had him sign one of my bags, the Zoe Messenger Bag, that I’d made with his Heirloom line!)
Last, but definitely not least, I had the chance to visit with the lovely Amy Butler!
She’s the designer I credit for helping me get my sewing groove back! I’d been sewing since I was 8, but took a break around my early college years because there just wasn’t any good fabrics to sew with. Her Midwest Modern line came out and renewed my love of sewing! (The picture above is of a pattern that will be available in a cotton sateen from Amy Butler. Seriously can’t wait to get my hands on that fabric!)
Sorry for the long post! Since it’s gotten a little long I’ll post the pictures from the quilt show in a separate post, probably next week!

Happy November!
