Tutorial Tuesday: Passport Cover

June 8, 2010

Tutorial Tuesday: Passport Cover

The next few weeks will be some travel inspired tutorials to get ready for those vacations you've got planned this summer!  Today we'll be making a passport cover!  I've got all the directions on how to make your own AND a download for the covers I designed! For each passport cover you'll need to cut the following: 2- 12 1/2" x 6" pieces of fabric (I used micro-suede.  It's easily cleanable and not too bulky!  A cotton would work well too.) 1-12 1/2" x 6" piece of lightweight interfacing (non-fusible) Sew-In Colorfast InkJet Fabric Sheets for your printer (You can find these in the sewing section of any craft/hobby … [Read more...]

Tutorial Tuesday: Origami Shirt and Tie

Tutorial Tuesday: Origami Shirt and Tie

We're going to make a great embellishment today, just in time for Father's Day!  I'll take you through the steps to make an origami shirt and add a cute little ribbon tie to finish it off. Start with a piece of paper that's 4" x 5 1/2".  The rest of the instructions are in the video.  I find that it's always easier to see origami as it's done, instead of seeing step by step pictures of the process. Here's a close up of the shirt and tie.  Try adding a mini metal brad for a tie tack! Supplies: Basic Grey papers, Cuttlebug embossing folder from the Asian Set, Adhesive from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, ribbon from my scrap … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites: French Style!

Friday Favorites: French Style!

I've been paying more attention lately to French recipes, interiors, and crafts.  I've always loved everything French and am looking forward to the trip my husband and I have planned in mere weeks!  We've finally bitten the bullet and will be traveling to Europe once he graduates with his graduate degree!  I couldn't be more thrilled, excited, and humbled, to be able to have such a wonderful opportunity.  Among other locations in Europe we'll be spending 5 days in Paris!  Today's favorites are inspired by the French! Vanilla and Blackberry French Macaroons.  I plan on visiting Laduree, whose macaroons are supposed to be … [Read more...]

Tutorial Tuesday-Wedding Gift

Tutorial Tuesday-Wedding Gift

My cousin got married yesterday and I'm so excited for her!  I wanted to make them a little something to send along with their other gift.  I ended up taking their engagement photo and framing it in a shadow box from IKEA, etching the glass with some hearts, and adding the sentiment and their wedding date.  I LOVE how it turned out!  I hope she does too! I also love how versatile it is.  This could easily be changed to make an anniversary gift, graduation gift, or a teacher gift! Supplies used: Cardstock and patterned paper from American Crafts and Bazzill Adhesives from 3L Scrapbook adhesives Frame from IKEA … [Read more...]

Tutorial Tuesday: Sewing project anyone?

Today I wanted to share with you a little project that I've been working on exclusively for BurdaStyle!  It's called the Cafe Collection.  They asked me to come up with a complete dining room pattern set with instructions.  The first installment is a nice spring set with gorgeous chiffon and satin flowers.  I'll also be showing you how to slightly modify the original for lots of different holidays coming up this year! You can download the full set of instructions and patterns for each (for FREE!) directly from BurdaStyle.  Enjoy! Erin … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites: Home Decor and a Recipe

A few of this week's favorites: Helvetica font cookie cutters from Beverly Hsu. Ravioli with Garlic-Herb Oil recipe from Women's Day.  Yum! Butterfly Collection pillow from Ruffles and Stuff. Purple Tiles Tote from Bundarra on Etsy.  (Seriously, why do bags have to be so darn cute!  I could buy bags everyday....I actually had a dream last night that I went shopping and bought a bag, much to my husband's dismay!) Screenprinted dish towels with red poppies from Michelle Brusegaard. … [Read more...]

Tutorial Tuesday: Strawberry Boxes

Tutorial Tuesday: Strawberry Boxes

I absolutely love strawberries!  Chocolate covered strawberries are great, but what about little strawberry boxes with chocolate inside?  Don't worry, I've got you covered!  (No pun intended!)  These would make great party favors, brunch decorations, or a great addition to a Mother's Day gift!  (I know I'll be sticking a few in the package I'm sending out!) Download the PDF here.  It includes the Strawberry boxes in a light and dark pink, 2 different cards, and the blank template if you want to use your own patterned paper to make the boxes!  (Have a Cricut and the SCAL software?  You can download the box template here and the leaf … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites: Schlosser Designs Projects

Today I'm highlighting some of my favorite projects from the Schlosser Designs Flickr Gallery.  Have you added any of your projects lately?  I'd love to see them! Amy T. made this awesome card using the Furnishing Fun set.  I love how the chair seat has a different "fabric"! Amy H. made this awesome card with the Outside the Box set.  Love how she cut out the centers and popped them for dimension. Tracy made this adorable birthday card using the Hey Cupcake set.  Love the embossed center and scalloped edges!
