I probably should have titled this post something like What I’m doing instead of packing for the move in 4 days, or maybe What I’m doing now is way more fun than packing, but since it’s Tuesday, a tutorial it is! This is a new project template that can be used in conjunction with the storage tins used for the Classy Dad Kit and the Tool Kit.

This free template has two options for you!

Here are the main items assembled to put together the kit. The free PDF template (see below for the download link), silver tin, a few coordinating papers, and don’t forget the chocolate Riesens! Just cut out the pieces you’d like to use and you’re ready to go!

This is my favorite part! If you use the pocket and handkerchief pieces don’t forget to write a little note on the handkerchief to put in the pocket!

Wrap the Riesens in strips of paper for a fun treat inside!

Download the template and instructions by clicking here. Enjoy!

Happy Crafting!

This is a really simple project also and GREAT for a handmade Christmas gift! You can very easily adapt it for different age levels as well. This one is a fairly simple match the pattern game. For a little more difficult version, try printing out upper and lowercase letters, or pictures and the matching words. Or even match the english word with the spanish or french word. (Told you it’s easily adaptable!)

Here’s what you’ll need:
A few packages of these:
-Wooden squares. I used two packages for the one I made. Originally I had wanted the squares to be larger than 1 1/4″ square and was going to order some from here. At the last minute I decided to just make them smaller. I found these at Hobby Lobby. Most craft stores will have them. However, if it’s for a fairly young child, the bigger ones might be better for their hands to grasp.
-You’ll also need some white paint. I painted them with acrylic paint, you can also spray paint them.
-Scraps of patterned paper. (I say scraps because that’s exactly what I used. Each paper piece I put on was a 1″ square)
-Mod Podge (or another adhesive)
-Krylon Shiny clear coat finish.

So, just paint the front and back of the tiles. We’re trying to make the back side as uniform as possible. Even a slight difference can detract from matching the pieces.

For each match cut out two 1″ square of paper (or alphabet, or whatever you decide to make it with.)

Use the mod podge to adhere the paper to the tile, adhering one piece to each tile.

When this is dry, give it a few coats of Krylon clear coat to finish it off. Don’t forget to use the clear coat on BOTH sides, not just the side that has the paper on it.

If you’re really crafty, you can make a little drawstring bag to store them in. (I wanted to, but didn’t have time.) This is such a small game that I could see this being carried around for waiting rooms in the doctors office or other such occasions.

Here is my pile of finished matching tiles.
Close-up. I love how the clear coat really gave it a smooth finished look!

The entire project took me about an hour, not including the clear coat drying time. And the only thing I didn’t have on hand was the wooden tiles, which I spent $3!

Happy Crafting!

I found this awesome clear transparency “paper” from Hambly Prints (I love Hambly Prints!) and thought it would look really fallish with an orange background. Is fallish a word? Anyway, here are the directions:

Cut a 12″ long, 1 1/2″ wide strip of the orange paper. Cut in half and this will be the base for two napkin rings.
Cut a 12″ long, 1″ wide strip of the transparency paper. Cut this one in half as well.

From here, you can make the more modern one, or the one with the ribbon.

Modern: Wrap around and staple. All done!

Ribbon: Set two eyelets about 1/4″ inside of the ends. Tie with a coordinating ribbon. Done!

These will make great, simple party decorations. Use Halloween paper, or bold geometric paper for a birthday! If your napkins are patterned, try using a colored vellum… that way you get a little of the pattern showing through.
Happy Crafting!

It’s been a while since my last post. You probably think I’ve fallen off the face of the earth. Actually I’ve been working hard on the stamp stuff. (Things that would make boring posts, like packaging and getting the retail website up and running, which has been a challenge! It’s still a work in progress as I try to integrate PayPal into it.)

Anyway, here’s a smaller project I worked on. These are little refrigerator magnets.

We had an old game that was missing some blocks, the generic brand of Jenga. I knew I could use the left over blocks for something and here it is. This is EXTREMELY easy to do! Just trace the block onto your favorite scrapbook paper, cut out, and use Mod-Podge (or another clear acrylic adhesive to attach paper) to glue down the paper to the block. When the first layer of clear acrylic is dry, put another one on top of the paper, to make the paper resistant to water damage. Then use your glue gun to glue a magnet on the back, and voila, you’re done! Really cheap and easy to match just about any decor. I liked seeing the actual wood finish, but you could paint the wood too. (I almost spray painted them a chocolate brown.) Other ideas include:

-Stamping letters on them for spelling practice and learning your ABC’s (well maybe your children, you probably already know your abc’s
-Use scrapbook rub-ons for cute patterns.

And here’s the contest part! Leave me a comment at the bottom of this post by Friday, May 23 at 7PM. You’re comment must include the answer to this question: What is your most favorite color combination? It can be just two colors, three colors, four colors, or more. Just let me know your favorite. Contest over.

The winner will get 5 unfinished magnet blocks! I’ve decided as I do tutorials here I’ll also be giving away one of the key items to make the project. (If you don’t live near me, I’ll include the shipping to get them to you!)

Check back really soon! I will have projects extremely soon with the new stamp sets. My samples get here tomorrow and the final stamp sets get here in about 3 weeks!

So my local scrapbooking store has a contest once a month where they give you a bag of supplies and you have one week to make a project. It’s been challenging because sometimes they are not the supplies that I would normally use. These were the supplies for the month:

And here’s what I made with it:

DIY Headboard and snowflake ornaments.

It’s already past the middle of November and I haven’t posted anything since the day after Halloween. Yikes. It seems so far away, even though it was only a few weeks ago. I have a few projects I’m working on that I’d like to post soon, and one to post now…

My finished Headboard for our bedroom. I figured out how big I needed it to be, and my dad helped me build the frame. It’s built out of a piece of plywood and a few 2×4′s. That took no time at all! I had Lowe’s cut the plywood piece for me (It was only 75 cents!) since I don’t have a big table saw in the garage, but I cut the 2×4′s with a circular saw. Then I just screwed it all together. The next step was to paint the legs which would show after the upholstery was done. I just spray painted them a nice dark chocolate brown. Then I bought some 3″ thick foam from JoAnn’s. (Be sure to use a coupon for this…it’s not the cheapest.) I used spray mount to glue on the foam then all I did was take a big piece of chocolate brown suede, wrap it around the front, and staple it on the back with a staple gun. Finished! All in all it took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from start to finish. (Not including shopping time for foam, wood, and fabric.) The wood and screws were about $30, the foam was around $50, and the fabric was around $20. All in all I made a new headboard for around $100. I thought it was a pretty good deal! And the best news is that Christian loves it! Next step is to use the same brown suede and make a simple bedskirt for the bed. Then the bed should be done. After that it’s on to the window treatments.

I also finished some ornaments for an online swap that I’m in. Christian asked me if I really had to send them out. (He wanted to keep them!) I fell in love with them too! I just used the sizzix die in my Cuttlebug machine and cut out the snowflake twice. Once with chipboard (which I then spray painted with the same brown paint as the headboard) and once out of christmas paper. I held them together with a brad and tied on a loop of brown ribbon. I think I’ll make more. Lots more. (If you live close, you’re more than welcome to come over and use it anytime!) The finished size is around 4″ in diameter.

More projects soon! I’m off of work for 5 whole days!!!!!!

Halloween wall decor with scrapbook paper.

Here it is:

And here’s how it’s done. It’s pretty easy. I used two different FREE downloaded digital scrapbooking kits:

Coralee Evans, aka MzCora Halloween Mega Kit found at http://mzpimptress.vox.com. This kit is awesome! So many different papers and embellishments! (She just emailed me and let me know that her site where the Halloween Kit is found is down at the moment. If you leave a comment with your email I can email you the pages that I used to make the kit.)

Ronna Penner of Scrapadelic.com ExpressYourself alphabet found at http://www.scrapadelic.com/ (Well, it was found there, but I think it was a limited time only kit for free. The only thing I used from Ronna was the alphabet, which you could switch out the letters for any other font you feel like, but I still have to give credit to her.)

Anyway, just print out the pages onto white cardstock, trim to sizes below, glue/tape to foam core, tie together and your done.

The quantities and sizes of the pieces are as follows:

4- 2 1/4″ x 10″ paper pieces

2 – 3″ x 3″ paper pieces

3- 3″ x 4 1/4″ paper pieces (This is for the BOO pieces. You can print them out with the green background or if you have green cardstock, just print out the black letters onto the green cardstock to save a little of your ink cartridge)

Glue/tape them to foam core board and trim to the correct sizes. I hung all of them from a empty paper towel tube wrapped in black chenille yarn. Just put a stripe of glue down the tube and start wrapping! I connected all the pieces together by taping more of the black chenille yarn to the backs.

Finished Size: 12″ x 24″

Designer Tips:

I made mine to hang against a wall, but if would also make a great mobile. Just cover the backs of the pieces with solid or more printed pattern cardstock. (This designer tip is from Christian! Thanks!)

I originally designed this to be a Christmas wall hanging-use christmas colored paper and instead of the BOO you could have JOY, or put pictures of your family inside.

If you’re into quilting, this would also be great made from fabric! or wood, or…well you get the idea!

Also, since you’re only using small pieces, you can crop the papers down to size before you print them out, then you use even less cardstock and ink.

Any questions? Just ask!

Celebrating my first published project in Paper Crafts Magazine!

Well, after much consideration I decided at the last minute to enter a card I created to Paper Crafts Magazine (www.papercraftsmag.com) and I just got the email that my project has been selected for their publication. I’m soooooooooo excited! I couldn’t believe it! I interrupted Christian’s movie to let him know! It will show up in their March 2008 magazine which goes on sale February 5, 2008. Unfortunately I can’t put a picture up until the the issue is available on stands….but I’ll warn you…It’s REALLY cute! It shows a new technique I created…but Christian (my DH) helped me with the idea for the image on the card! He’s so good at coming up with crafty ideas…and he’s an accountant! So, THANKS to Christian for the support and the ideas! Now I’m off to create cards for their next submission call!
