Tutorial Tuesday: Baby Onesies

I went to a baby shower for a friend last week, and of course, wanted to give her something with more of a handmade feel. I got a package of baby onesies and used a piece of this fabric from Michael Miller that I’d been saving for just such an occasion.

To keep things quick and simple I used the pattern on the fabric instead of creating my own applique patterns. All you need is some fabric, iron-on interfacing, (I used Heat and Bond.) fabric scissors, and some coordinating thread. Iron on the Heat and Bond to the back of the material following the instructions on the package. Cut out around the shapes you’d like to use leaving about 1/8″ border around the images. Center them on your onesie, iron on, then stitch around the edges. Usually I’d do a zig-zag stitch, but this time I used a straight stitch so the edges would be a little frayed. I liked the tree in the print, but created my own. Just cut out some circles and the trunk, iron on, stitch, and you’re done! Voila:

Raspberry Lemon Suncatcher Lollipops

My good friend Emily from Texas made these a while back and I was enthralled. I wanted to make them but was waiting for the perfect opportunity. I finally decided to make them for the Strawberry Lemon themed baby shower last week. I followed Emily’s directions exactly, but I think next time I may skip the ice bath. It seemed to cool down the lollipops a little too quickly! But it made some nice swirlies in the coloring when it got too thick to mix anymore and I knew I had mere minutes to form into lollipop shapes or end up with a bowl full of candy. Luckily I had Debbi, my friend to help quickly shape the lollipops! (*I’ll probably add more flavoring as well next time too.)

How cute are they? After they had cooled I stuck them in little lollipop bags and tied the ends with raffia. So simple and pretty!

Modern Baby Announcements

I love doing custom announcements! Here’s one of the last ones I did for a new baby girl! Thanks Jess for letting me celebrate with you!

Outside-I love the little beaded eye detail…oh so cute!

Inside included the birth information and blessing information along with a spot for a photo of the new little one.

Tutorial Tuesday: Baby Book

Here’s a slide show of the book I made for a co-worker that was expecting. (Katelyn has been born now!)

It’s super easy to make! And here’s the download for you! Click to download the Baby Book. There’s 4 pages in PDF format. (Each page has 3 prompts.) All of the scrapbook prompts above are included and I added some that include meeting their sister/brother/siblings and the cat. I also added a stat page for a boy too. So you’re ready to go!

When I made it I put one prompt on each page (each prompt is the size of an index card) and left space on the other side for a picture. That way the book is already made, the new parents just fill in their thoughts and add a picture!

Baby Card

Here’s the card I made this month for card swap. My preview stamp images came in JUST in time! I used two images from the Borders Set: The border and the XOXOX stamp. (The “baby” stamp is from Stampin Up) The finished size is 3″ x 6″. I like this one because of the fun rectangular size. Just cut a 3″ strip of 12″ square paper, fold in half, and you’ve got yourself a card.

Gift: Baby Journal

A friend at work is expecting her first child (a little girl named Katelyn) soon and we’re having a baby shower for her tomorrow. This is what I made for her:

Basically a small journal with a few prompts. I left one side empty so she could put a picture and the other side has a little journal block. I’ve typed below what each one says…or you can click to see it bigger

Our Beautiful Baby Girl (name here) entered the world on (Date here) at (time here). She weighed (weight) was (length) long, and had (color) eyes.

The paper I used was a stack from K & Company designed by Amy Butler. I’ve been wanting to get some of her fabric and patterns for a while now and when I saw her paper I just had to get it. Anyway, the rest was just solid cardstock to match, with adhesive rhinestones throughout.
